How long have you been working out at CrossFit Dix Hills?

Joined in November 2014 – I was in the first foundations class.

How did you hear about CrossFit and what made you sign up?

My sister and brother-in-law in Seattle had been talking to Jarrett and me about CrossFit for years. We would laugh at them and say that we are never joining their cult. Jarrett and I tried a class when we visited them and he was hooked instantly. I took a little longer to get the bug but once I learned that our friends were opening CFDH, I took it as a sign to try something new and have been an addict ever since!

What do you love about CrossFit?

What don’t I love?! I grew up playing sports and I am a naturally competitive person. I enjoy that I can compare myself to members of all abilities, male or female, young or old, and challenge myself to be faster and stronger. The energy and comradery of CFDH during the Open really exemplifies why being a member is so great.

The CFDH coaches are passionate and have literally taught me everything I know about CrossFit and I appreciate their enthusiasm as members reach new heights. I love watching my CFDH friends achieve their goals and I appreciate that they are cheering me on as well.

CrossFit has given my husband and me a hobby that we can participate in together and I love that our kids can watch us exercise, get strong and achieve goals that we set for ourselves. Looking good in our bathing suits is a nice perk also!

What has been your biggest CrossFit accomplishment so far?

Pull-ups! I started with the black band and gradually increased my strength and I am now able to string together 4 strict pull-ups. During this year’s CrossFit Open, I was able to do 24 unassisted pull-ups!

Please name something that you would like to accomplish in the next year?

I really want to get kipping pull-ups and kipping toes to bar. I would also love to be able to do double unders consistently.

What is your advice to other CrossFitters or those who are considering trying CrossFit?

Don’t be intimidated! Everything we do at CrossFit can be modified to your ability and you will feel just as accomplished when the WOD is over as someone who is moving faster or able to complete it RX. Whenever I meet someone who is scared to try a class or thinks it will be too hard, I tell them that if my 72 year-old dad can do it, so can you!

What are your hobbies and interests outside of CrossFit?

Traveling, spending time with Jarrett and our kids, soccer and dessert 😉
